For those of you working with animated documentaries, this weekend workshop is an offer that we hope will inspire you!
Together with director and producer Martina Scarpelli, this workshop will focus on helping participants, with an animated documentary project, on putting together a One pager, a director statement and start developing a project description. It will consist on a first lecture where she will share examples of application materials, then one-to-one session with filmmakers in order to review their material and help them strengthening it.
With: Martina Scarpelli ( www.martinascarpelli.com)
Target: Animated documentary projects
The goal of the workshop is to facilitate future directors by strengthening their applications for an animated documentary project, they are currently working on. Whether they are looking for producers, or applying for a film grant, or a residency program…figuring out how to put together a good application can be just as important as writing a good script.
Every application is of course different and it is essential that the requirements are reviewed months ahead, however Martina narrowed down a list of material most application share and that in any case it is good to have ready while you are developing a project. These are:
- A fact sheet / one pager containing logline & short synopsis and a recap of the main info regarding the project.
- A project description. This can variate but could normally include:
- Concept / synopsis / Treatment / character descriptions / themes of the film
- Artistic approach & visuals: use of animation, use of style, use of sound
- A director statement: why me, why this, why now
- Budget, Schedule & F-plan
While Martina will share in the talk a little bit about budget, schedule and F-plan, you will mostly focus on one pager, director statement and setting the basis for a project description for the more practical part of the workshop to make sure you have something to further work with after the workshop ends.
She will also gladly share a simple folder system to make sure your material can be updated and archived during development process.
With those who are more familiar with the process she can eventually help with budget and f-plan if needed.
